Professional Diploma in Legal Executive Studies

For students looking for sub-degree level legal training, then the Professional Diploma in Legal Executive Studies delivered by The Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEx) in association with the School of Continuing and Professional Studies (SCS) of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) is the ideal law course.

The Professional Diploma meets the Law Society of Hong Kong’s benchmark standards for chartered legal executives, which were developed in consultation with CUHK. It provides the necessary skills for those wishing to work as chartered legal executives or other support staff in practice, business or government within Hong Kong.

As well as being a recognised qualification amongst legal firms in Hong Kong, it can also be used as an access course to studying law at university, or to gain exemption from part of the qualification to become a chartered legal executive in England and Wales.

Who is the course for?

This a two-year part-time programme based in Hong Kong and is designed for prospective chartered legal executives in the Hong Kong jurisdiction. It is distinct from courses such as the Diploma in Legal Studies and Diploma in Law in that it is recognised as leading to qualification as a chartered legal executive.

The Professional Diploma in Legal Executive Studies provides the necessary skills for those wishing to work as chartered legal executives or other support staff in practice, business or government within Hong Kong. You will learn practical legal skills as well as the theory of law, making you a valuable prospective employee for a law firm or in-house legal department.

Programme details

Our instructors are experienced teachers, who have good knowledge of legal practice. Their knowledge, coupled with specially written materials - there is a manual for each law and practice subject - means that students receive excellent tuition and support. CILEx Law School, as part of the CILEx Group, develops and annually update the course materials. We have many years’ experience of working in Hong Kong, having written materials for the HKU SPACE Diploma in Legal Studies.  You will also have access to on-line resources through CILEx Law School's web-based Student Area.

PRC Law

Progression

You can use the Professional Diploma as an access course to gain entry to the University of London International Programmes Law Degree and to the part-time LL.B programmes at De Montfort University, Leicester, England; Nottingham Trent University, Nottingham, England and Cardiff Law School, Wales.

The Professional Diploma in Legal Executive Studies wlll also exempt you from first stage of chartered legal executive training in England and Wales, the CILEx Level 3 Professional Diploma In Law and Practice. You will achieve the necessary academic requirements to become a Graduate Member of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEx) by studying the the CILEx Level 6 Professional Higher Diploma in Law and Practice. Courses for this qualification are available by distance learning so you could study from Hong Kong.
