City & Guilds/CILEx Level 3 Certificate for Legal Secretaries - £590

These courses are for you if you are already a legal secretary and build on your current legal secretarial skills or you would like to move back into the legal secretarial field. If you already have a qualification in law and would like to add legal secretarial skills to improve your employment prospects we would recommend the City & Guilds/CILEx Level 2 Certificate for Legal Secretaries.

What will I study?

You will learn to create complex documents using both text and audio sources, and how to use office house styles and templates. You will also find out how to plan and coordinate an event and gain an understanding of the courts system.The syllabus also covers health and safety issues. More detailed information is given in the table below.

Level 3 unit in Legal Word
Processing – Text Processing and Audio
This unit is for those who are already competent in word processing skills. You will learn to emply advanced word processing techniques and audio transcription skills to edit and manipulate a variety of legal and business documents. You will be able to interpret and implement audio conventions, amend and format the layout and text of documents,
import graphics and/or data, create and format complex tables, follow written instructions and interpret amendment and correction signs, identify and correct spelling errors, identify and correct legal terminology, identify and expand general and legal abbreviations and check calculations in documents.
 
Level 3 unit in Business Skills in the Legal Environment You will develop the knowledge and skills to evaluate business management systems and identify and monitor the application of relevant legislation in the legal environment. You will learn about the structure of the court system; about the personal rights and responsibilities of the individual in maintaining a safe, health and secure working environment; be able to carry out basic risk assessments and describe employment legislation affecting an office environment. You will also learn about different information and communication equipment and systems and gain an understanding of the importance of continuous improvement, effective team working and learn how to organise and co-ordinate events.
Level 3 unit in Proof-reading in the Legal Environment You will develop the knowledge and skills to accurately proofread and amend documentation appropriate for the legal and business environments. You will be able to compare passages of text, figures and mark up differences, identify and rectify commonly misspelt words, incorrect, missing or surplus punctuation marks, errors of consistency and grammatical errors in complex sentence structures. You will be able to identify and correct errors in presentation including line spacing, font style and size, justification of text, indentation, alignment and sequencing.


How will I be taught?

CILEx Law School is approved by CIty & Guilds for the delivery of these courses. City & Guilds has awarded CILEx Law School grade 'A' for very aspect of our course delivery including our management systems, resources, candidate support, assessment and quality assurance procedures.

When you enrol with CILEx Law School you will receive course materials for the units that make up your qualification. You will have access to the on-line course forum as well as to our academic helpline to assist you as you go along. Once you have worked through the manual for a unit, and attempted the practice exercises within it, you can request your assignment.

How are the units assessed?

Each unit is assessed by one assignment. As you complete each assessed assignment, you submit it to your CILEx Law School tutor for marking and comment. The table below shows the assignments and test conditions for each type of unit. CILEx Law School will inform City &Guilds/CILEx of your assignment results. Once you have completed all the units that make up your chosen qualification CILEx Law School will request your Certificate from City & Guilds.

weeks of the assignment being requested by you. No requirement for supervision
Level 3 unit in Proof-reading in the Legal Environment One timed assignment As above, but additionally, this test to be done
on a particular date – three sittings per year

Alternatively, you can elect to study the wider City & Guilds/CILEx Level 3 Diploma for Legal Secretaries.
