First CLS staff member to become a Graduate member of CILEx 05/09/2018
Kate Mortimer-Coles has become the first member of CILEx Law School’s Customer Service Team to become a Graduate member of CILEx (GCILEx).
Professional Courses Administrator Kate is celebrating after achieving passes in the final three units of her CILEx Level 6 Professional Higher Diploma in Law and Practice in the June 2018 exam session.
CILEx Law School (CLS) prides itself on providing excellent customer service and, to ensure that our staff can confidently advise current and future learners, members of our Customer Service Team are enrolled on our courses when they start at CLS.
Several have finished their CILEx Level 3 Professional Diploma in Law and Practice, but Kate is the first to become a Graduate Member of CILEx by completing the full Level 6 qualification too.
Kate, who joined CLS in March 2013, sat her first two Level 3 exams in January 2014 and has successfully completed her studies despite working and having a young family.
She said: “I feel really proud because I have never been a graduate before. I did consider studying law when I was younger but, as I hadn’t taken it at A-level, I didn’t think that I could do it. I started a medical biochemistry degree at university but was not able to complete it due to personal circumstances.
“When I started at CLS I was just pleased to have been given the chance to study – it was a great opportunity. I found that I really enjoyed learning, so I knew that when I finished my Level 3, I wanted to do the Level 6 Diploma. I was really chuffed when I got a distinction in my first Level 6 unit – Land Law – because I really didn’t know how I had done.
“It’s not always been easy: I sat my first two exams when I was pregnant with my first child. I then had my second daughter in November 2015 and again sat exams at the January exam session.
“I have really enjoyed the flexibility of studying with CLS and being able to fit it around my family commitments. The different resources which CLS offers to students, such as the course summaries and study exercises, have been invaluable.
“I wanted to make my children proud – and I feel that I have achieved that. It proves that you can study law whatever your background.”
Kate is now being sponsored by CLS to do a two-year distance-learning Graduate Diploma in Law with De Montfort University, starting in October. This is part of CILEx Law School’s commitment to offer continuing professional development opportunities to our staff.
Kate wasn’t alone in celebrating on results day last Friday as three other members of CLS’ Customer Service team – Clare Kersey, Adam Norton and Millie Collier – also achieved success in the Level 3 exams which they were sitting.
