CILEx Law School strengthens Academic Team with two appointments
CILEx Law School has welcomed Simon Cohl and Shirley McDonagh to our Academic Team.
Simon has started as our new Deputy Academic Director while Shirley has joined us as Academic Manager.
Simon was on the cusp of going into legal practice, having obtained his LPC, when he was asked to give a talk to students at Middlesex University where he studied law.
That instead inspired a career in teaching, and he has been working in education since 2000.
Simon spent 16 years at Oaklands College, in St Albans, including as head of law and as a senior advanced skills practitioner, before joining Milton Keynes College as head of school for academic studies, forensic science and business.
As well as having considerable experience in training, development and quality, he has worked as a schools’ inspector and an Ofqual Subject Expert, overseeing the accreditation of the new A-level reforms, including for law.
Shirley, who qualified as a solicitor in 1994, has an extensive background in teaching, having taught in schools, further education colleges and at the University of Bedfordshire.
In her role at CILEx Law School, she is responsible for delivering our academic courses to students.
Kim Morrison, Academic Director, said: “I am delighted to welcome Simon and Shirley to CILEx Law School. Both bring with them considerable legal and academic knowledge and experience.
“They will both help to strengthen our offering, which includes the full suite of distance-learning CILEx courses and a range of legal apprenticeship programmes.
“We have more than 3,500 people studying via distance learning with CILEx Law School, and almost 500 apprentices on legal and administrative programmes. Being able to call on such experience in our Academic Team can only benefit both our current and future learners.”
